May Day Protest

May Day is a national day of solidarity and protest — a massive, nonviolent act of economic disruption. Following the example of the historic 2006 Day Without Immigrants and the powerful resistance in Minnesota this past January, the call is the same: No work. No school. No shopping.

But "mayday" is also a distress signal — and this is a moment of distress. The Trump regime has created this emergency: war, rising prices, terrorizing our neighbors, threatening our elections, pillaging our environment, and shredding our safety nets, all while the billionaire class profits from the dismantling of our democracy.

Here's how to get involved locally:

  1. Workers, students, and families: call out of work, skip school, don't shop. (Students under 18 need a parent's OK.) If you must shop, go small, go local, use cash.

  2. Join the 5 Bridges Brigade. Hold banners and signs on five bridges across Nevada City and Grass Valley. Two shifts: 11am–1pm and 1pm–3pm.
Sign up for a bridge shift below:
Broad Street - Banner Mtn. - Brunswick - Dorsey - McKnight

  3. Rally with us. Join the May Day Protest, 3–5pm at Brunswick/Sutton Way, Grass Valley — our county's economic center. Bring signs, flags, and your peace-loving spirit (and donations for Food Drive). Let's show our numbers!
