Nevada Joint Union School District Board Meeting: Support Students & Inclusive Schools
This is an important community meeting with real consequences for our high school students. We encourage community members to attend and show support for policies that ensure every student feels safe, respected, and supported.
When: Wednesday, March 11, 2026 6:00 p.m.
Where: 112 Nevada City Highway, Nevada City, CA 95959
What’s happening
1. Support Student Leadership – STANDS
A Nevada Union student, Graham, along with fellow students, is launching a new campus group called STANDS in response to recent incidents of violence involving students in the school system.
The goal of STANDS is to create a safer, more supportive school environment where students stand up against bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
Community support for this effort matters. The board will be considering recognition of this student initiative.
Our position: Vote YES on STANDS
2. Every Student Belongs Resolution
The board will also revisit the Every Student Belongs (ESB) Resolution, which affirms that all students—regardless of background, identity, or beliefs—deserve to feel safe and welcome at school.
This resolution reinforces California law and supports efforts like STANDS that promote respect and inclusion across the campus community.
Our position: Vote YES on Every Student Belongs
3. Proposed “Empowering Students” Resolution
A separate resolution called “Empowering Students” is also on the agenda.
Community members have raised concerns that this proposal may conflict with or undermine existing protections and initiatives like Every Student Belongs and the STANDS student effort.
With strong state education protections already in place, and with STANDS and ESB addressing student safety and inclusion, many in the community are questioning the need for an additional resolution.
Our position: Vote NO on the “Empowering Students” Resolution
